REASON FOR THE GIFT
As a graduate of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), I am proud and fortunate to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this venerable institution by establishing the Wendell and Susan Foo Endowed Scholarship in commemoration of the event.

Graduating from JABSOM prepared me well for both my medical practice, and its emphasis on community and volunteerism has stayed with me throughout my career. For example, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to organize the annual Career Night event, where JABSOM students learn about their existing or potential fields of interest from practicing Hawai‘i physicians from a wide variety of specialties.

JABSOM is far more and far better than “the only medical school in Hawai‘i”. It excels in family practice medicine, problem-based learning, and is a critical international center of research, teaching and learning in the Asia-Pacific region. It is critically important that the state, community and JABSOM alumni continue to support JABSOM’s mission and outreach even as the Kaka‘ako campus continues to thrive and expand.

Susan and I extend our heartiest congratulations to JABSOM on its 50th Anniversary! We hope our scholarship will contribute to the financial support of our medical students in the years to come! ~ Dr. Wendell Foo
