Robert L. & Brigitte M. Campbell Endowed Scholarship in Human Nutrition

History:  Robert "Bob" Campbell served the University for nearly forty years teaching primarily in the College of Education but also in the College of Arts & Sciences Department of General Science. Prior to joining the UH Manoa faculty in 1956, he served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, worked as a chemical engineer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, taught secondary school science and mathematics for six years in Louisiana, and taught physical science for non-science majors at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. Promoting the study of science in Hawai'i, Bob absorbed the "pro bono publico" duties of director of the Hawai'i State Science and Engineering Fairs from 1968-1986, an annual exhibit of secondary school student inquiry and achievement in natural science, mathematics and engineering beyond the customary school curricula.

Brigitte "Brig" Campbell, a native of Berlin, Germany, taught nutrition and dietetics at hospital facilities in Berlin, Heidelberg, Paderborn, and the University of Dusseldorf before coming to Hawaii in 1964. In Honolulu she worked in commercial restaurants, the Convalescent Center of Honolulu, and the UH Manoa Hemenway Cafeteria. In 1973 she joined the faculty of the Food Service Division at Kapi'olani Community College. After receiving her Master's in Education from the UH Manoa College of Education in 1975, Brigitte began teaching undergraduate lab-oriented foods courses in the UH Manoa Department of Food Science and Nutrition until her retirement in 1995.
