James P.D. Thropp Scholarship in Agriculture

History:  ABOUT THE HONOREE

James P.D. Thropp, Jr. was the son of James and Lena B. Thropp. A graduate of Punahou School and California State Polytechnic College at San Dimas, CA. Later, James earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Hawaii-Hilo.

Jim worked on various Hawaiian sugar plantations as an agronomist. He retired when Hamakua Sugar, HI closed. He was a long time member of the Hawaii Farm Bureau.

Jim was kind, thoughtful, smart and funny. He was an old fashioned gentleman who lived his religion. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and James Skelsey. Jim has family in Honolulu, Maui, California, South Carolina and Canada.

Description:  The purpose of this fund is to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree related to agriculture in the College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources ("CTAHR") at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).
