Richard H. & Mildred D. Kosaki Student Assistance Fund

History:  Richard H. Kosaki (BA 1948), a University of Hawaii alumnus, served as a professor and administrator at UH from 1952 to his retirement in 1985 as Chancellor Emeritus. He is credited with being the "father" of the University of Hawaii Community College System, and received the University of Hawaii Distinguished Alumni Awards in 1968 and 1996. Upon his retirement, he was a Special Assistant in the Office of the Governor (1992-97), and helped to establish Hawaii Tokai International College and became its first president (1992-97).

Mildred Doi Kosaki is an alumna of the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (B.Ed. 1944; M.Ed. 1949). She coordinated institutional research for the University of Hawaii and has served as a past co-consultant to the Board of Regents. She was the first woman director on the Board of Directors of the Hawaiian Electric Company from 1973 to 1996. She has also served on numerous governmental commissions and has several publications on education. In 1996 she founded the University of Hawaii Community Partnership.



Description:  The purpose of this fund is to contribute to the effectiveness of undergraduate education in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, with special emphasis on the social sciences.
